Catalog Description

The study of networking and telecommunications fundamentals including LANs, WANs, and the Internet. Data communication and telecommunication concepts, models, standards, and protocols are studied. Installation, configuration, and management of infrastructure technologies are practiced.

Course Objectives

1. Have an understanding of the available alternatives in hardware, software, and transmission facilities. Topics to include: Telecommunication configurations; networked and web applications; distributed systems; wireless architectures; topologies and protocols; operations of bridges, routers, switches, and gateways; network privacy, security, and firewalls.
2. Be able to put that understanding to work with informed decisions based on these alternatives
3. Integrate these decisions into a cohesive data communication network design
4. Understand today’s technology and how to remain informed about change
5. Perform design activities of increasing greater scope and complexity as you build experience, judgment, and confidence
